I work honestly and whole-heartedly: Deepika Padukone

In just a span of one year, Deepika Padukone has become a phenomenon in Bollywood and synonymous to box office success. In this interview, the actress talks about her success and struggle.

She has scored a hat-trick of hits on the Bollywood pitch, with each film offering a different flavour of her versatile talent, but Deepika Padukone is in no mood to rest. She is raring to go with more multifarious roles and says she will continue to give them all her 100 percent.

Her first big hit of the year, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani saw her impress the audience as nerdy Naina, and she followed up its success with her South Indian act as Meenamma in the box office record-breaking Chennai Express.

Deepika's latest release "Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela", in which she plays a Gujarati girl, has also made its way to the Rs.100 crore club.

"It is magical," the 27-year-old told IANS on phone as she shared her sentiment post the film's success, but she was quick to add that "nothing has changed".

Her debut in Hindi films was like a fairytale - she entered with Shah Rukh Khan in 2007 blockbuster Om Shanti Om and the reincarnation drama turned out to be a perfect springboard for the success and popularity that she continues to revel in even today. In fact, she is enjoying much more.

However, a career graph can't be "planned", says the tall and dusky beauty, who made a natural transition from the modelling world to the big screen.

"I've always believed that everyone has one's own pattern, the only thing that I can do is to work with the best of my ability, to work honestly and whole-heartedly and to know that I'm giving my 100 percent. I think the results follow eventually," said Deepika, who is the daughter of Ujjala and former badminton star Prakash Padukone, who was one of the world's best badminton players in his time.

Deepika Padukone, the 500 crore phenomenon

She is also ready to take on more new kinds of films. Independent films?

She drove the conversation to her first 2014 release - Homi Adajania's "Finding Fanny", an English language film produced by Saif Ali Khan's Illuminati Films.

"I'll call it alternate, because it will be pitched differently and it will look slightly different from some of the other films that I have done in the past," explained Deepika Padukone, who finds it "strange" to dissect her films into mainstream commercial and alternate cinema.

"I think it is convenient from the audience's point of view to categorise films, but for an actor, what I bring to a film is the same. The only thing probably different in 'Finding Fanny' is that it's an English language film. That was the first time for me, but in terms of my approach to a film, in terms of what I bring to a film or character, that doesn't change with the type of film I do.

"It doesn't matter if I am doing a 'Chennai Express', I'm less or more committed. My enthusiasm for every film will be the same, irrespective of the budget of the film or the way the film looks."

How about her experience of playing such different characters and yet getting the act right each time?

"I think in my case, it's just that the films are doing well commercially, that people are sitting up and noticing that each of my films is different from the other in terms of characters.

"But if you step back a bit, you will realise that even in between 2009 and 2011, the films I did didn't do well commercially, whether it was 'Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey', where I played a freedom fighter, to 'Break Ke Baad' to 'Karthik Calling Karthik'...

"I am including my first film 'Om Shanti Om', where I played a heroine from the 1980s... So, from the start of my career, I have had the opportunity to play various characters. I am glad that I haven't been slotted as doing just one kind of character or just being stuck to doing one kind of cinema."

Deepika Padukone: Her sister is her biggest critic

0comments

Deepika Padukone is a ‘bombshell’ indeed, not only for the way she looks but in the way her films have bombarded at the box office. The star has given one hit after another this year and all her flicks have done great business. Chennai Express entered Rs. 200 crores club and now her latest outing, Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela will soon be a part of Rs. 100 crores club too, but when it comes to criticism, Dippy feels that her sis (Anisha Padukone) is her biggest critic.
Deepika Padukone: Her sister is her biggest critic
The leggy lass said, “She is always very honest, and I don't mind it," Deepika said. "She is very honest about her opinion. She is my most blunt critic and speaks her heart. Even if she is criticising me, I don't mind it because she is very honest and wants me to do well. As far as Ram-Leela is concerned, she just loved the film.” The actress is on a roll at the moment and is presently filming for Happy New Year where she will be seen opposite Shah Rukh Khan yet again.

I Have No Ego: Deepika Padukone

Tuesday, November 26, 2013, 15:57 [IST] Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone is having the time of her life as she has been having back-to-back hits in the Box-Office. After success hits some celebs, stardom gets to them and they tend to change their attitude however, we don’t see such a thing with diva Deepika. From the time she has entered the B-Town, she has been the same with the way she talks and treats people. In 2013, Deepika has done more business than many top male actors but her attitude stays unchanged. In a recent interview, the actress was asked where her ego is! In response to this, Deepika said, “I have no ego. People tell me that I am a very grounded person. More than success, it’s really about enjoying with the people that I work with, and when you start believing that, you know that everything else is secondary.” Deepika goes on to talk about success and what it is for her. She says that she has sacrificed a lot in her life for the love her work. “Success comes from a having a good time and enjoying yourself and knowing that there’s nothing in the world that it’ll be doing besides acting. I am in that place right now. In my last two years I’ve sacrificed everything for my work-my food, my sleep, my social life, my family time,” she said. The 27-year-old actress credits this attitude to her parents. She feels that she is this way because of her parents who are currently based in Bangalore. “I think that comes from the way I’ve been brought up by my parents,” Deepika expressed. We hope that the actress stays the same because everyone is loving her just the way she is.

Surprise your partner in pleasant ways, advises Deepika Padukone!

on Saturday at 11:38am
Actors Imran Khan and Deepika Padukone were seen playing loving pair in their 2010 movie Break Ke Baad. So here the two has come up to help the couples sort out their relationship troubles. The two will be coming together again in a commercial for an iconic beauty brand.

Sources claim that the advertisement is going to be high on romance, and it’ll air on December 1. First to speak is Deepika, who was in long-term relationship with Ranbir Kapoor. She said, "I think igniting the spark means keeping the romance alive in your relationship by doing the unexpected. Surprise your partner in pleasant ways, something that he or she wouldn't anticipate.

"Nowadays, couples tend to take each other for granted because they feel they know each other inside out which results in loss of spark and enthusiasm in the relation. The second most important thing is to not lose yourself. Take care of yourself, your space and only then will you be able to take care of your relationship."

Meanwhile, Imran, who has been married for Avantika Malik, said, "I think the first step to igniting the spark in your relationship is to spend sufficient amount of time with each other. Igniting the spark differs from relation to relation.

"Spending quality time with each other will help you nurture the relationship well and putting in that extra effort to make yourself and your partner look good keeps the thrill alive. Feeling your best and being happy with yourself is key."

While Ranveer had quite some time to work on it, Deepika joined the team only two weeks before the shoot schedule started. But, it was perhaps Deepika who had to do extra work, as apart from the body language and emoting, she also had to carry off heavy costumes and jewellery. The colourful ghagras that she was seen adorning in the film weighed 25 to 30 kgs which was designed by Anju Modi and Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Not only that, she also had to wear heavy jewellery, especially the earrings. On a recent visit to the city, the actress shared, "I will not be wearing earrings for a long time. I had to wear really heavy earrings for the film throughout the scheduled."

'Ram-Leela' also managed to match pace with the frenzy around Sachin Tendulkar's finale match that took place in Mumbai.
However, 'Ram-Leela' did face a few protests with certain groups claiming that the title and content of the film is insensitive to religious Hindu sentiments. As a result of which, some cinemas were forced to shut down and certain shows were suspended.
But Ranveer and Deepika are surely celebrating the success of their Indian Shakespearean drama. The rumoured couple is being showered with praise for their performances both by critics and fans along with co-stars Supriya Pathak and Richa Chadda.

Five Star Rating For Deepika Is "Finding Funny"

Five Star Rating For Her Is Funny
Parallel with its bollywood release, ace film maker Sanjay Leela Bhansali's latest movie 'Ram Leela' released in Andhra Pradesh too, at all A centres and in Hindi version. Let us have a look at the surprise our audiences are getting at theatres with this movie, and after watching Deepika Padukone.

All those Bollywood based entertainment channels have rated 'Ram Leela' with five stars out of five, and are in admiration of Deepika. But once if Telugu audience look at the movie, they are confused why the flick and that heroine got such a huge rating. In fact, the storyline of this movie is quite old, rusted, tried and tested in Telugu industry from ages. A girl and boy from enemy groups (like Rayalaseema faction) fall in love, and they sacrifice their love to unite their families and a silly climax is what forms the story line of 'Ram Leela'. Heroine needs to dance in songs, weep at times, shed tears and finally have some laughs even while crying. We have seen 100s of Telugu flicks with the same line. In that case '5 stars' given for Ram-Leela and Deepika are funny, say many.

Some say that Bhansali's narration won points, while others add that the lavish and painterly look of the movie scored brownie. Whatever it is, Telugu audiences are saying that first half of this Leela is better, while Deepika and second half are just average.
